Celebrating a century of shaping the Michiana region

For over a century, Larson-Danielson Construction has been shaping the Michiana region. Our impactful projects in the region clearly showcase our legacy.

Our journey began with the construction of the Hotel Mishawaka in 1909. Later, we built the St. Joseph Hospital of Mishawaka in 1918, which was commissioned by the Order of the Poor Handmaidens of Jesus Christ.

Current Michiana Construction Projects

Today, we continue to contribute to the community with our active construction work. At the forefront of our current projects is the renovation of Four Winds Field and the Raclin Murphy Encore Center.

Andrew Matura, the project manager for the Four Winds Field renovation, describes the project as transformative. We’re giving the stadium a major facelift, adding a second level with new suites and party areas. Plus, the outfield will get a splash pad, playground, and fun zone for everyone to enjoy.

As the Construction Manager as Constructor for this $40 million project, we’re excited about the positive impact it will have on the Michiana area. Matura highlights the growth this brings, especially with the collaboration between the City of South Bend and the South Bend Cubs.

Over at the Morris Performing Arts Center, the Raclin Murphy Encore Center is another exciting project we’re tackling as the general contractor. We’re adding about 20,000 square feet to the Morris, including a two-story lobby.

As the project manager David said, this addition is all about making your visit even better. The Raclin Murphy Encore Center will cut down on crowding and introduce some eye-catching areas throughout the venue.

Our Work with the University of Notre Dame

Beyond our collaboration with the City of South Bend, we have built a solid partnership with the University of Notre Dame.

We have completed several significant projects for the university. Our more recent projects include Graham Family Hall, a new men’s dormitory, and the renovation of the Grand Reading Room at Hesburgh Library.

Graham Family Hall opened in the Fall of 2024 and offers students modern living spaces. One of the major highlights of the building is a ground-level archway that enhances campus walkability.

The four-story, 79,000-square-foot residence hall accommodates up to 262 students. It features a variety of room types, communal areas, study spaces, and a chapel.

The renovation of the Beth & Lou Holtz Family Grand Reading Room transformed it into a warm, light-filled space that serves as a central hub for students and faculty. Among other notable highlights, we incorporated a staircase connecting the two floors and added a fireplace.

Public Parks in Michiana

In addition to educational institutions, we have revitalized several public parks in the region. In 2018, we completed the renovation of Howard Park in South Bend, the city’s oldest park.

More recently, the transformation of Crawford Park in Mishawaka stands out as a notable achievement. This comprehensive redesign introduced modern amenities to a dated park. The project features a new playground, walking paths, and community gathering areas, making it a popular destination for families and residents.

We also completed the extension of the Mishawaka Riverwalk and the addition of Marvin’s Garden in Mishawaka. This project expanded recreational opportunities along the river and created a picturesque setting for walking, jogging, and enjoying the outdoors.

Our dedication to quality construction and community development in Michiana is evident in every project we undertake, whether through public parks, educational institutions, or recreational spaces.
