Chesterton Town Hall and Fire Department Renovation Complete

Jan 21, 2026 | General Contracting, Institutional, News, Public

The Town of Chesterton Town Hall and Fire Department comprehensive interior renovation is now complete. This project has helped modernize two essential municipal facilities while strengthening the town’s ability to serve residents and support first responders.

The general contracting contract was awarded to Larson-Danielson through a competitive hard-bid process in April 2025 and construction began in May 2025. The project invests in infrastructure that meets today’s operational demands and positions the community for the future.

A Modernized Space for Municipal Operations

The remodeled Town Hall officially reopened to the public at the end of 2025. Originally constructed in the mid-20th century, the renovation presented unique challenges typical of older structures. Through meticulous coordination and planning, the project team successfully navigated those complications to deliver a functional yet modern municipal space.

Key Town Hall upgrades include advanced audio-visual technology, expanded seating for up to 100 attendees, new restrooms, and refreshed interior finishes. A new community room provides flexible space for public meetings, training sessions, and town events, supporting greater public engagement.

Larson-Danielson worked closely with Town leadership and engineering staff, maintaining a collaborative, detail-focused approach throughout the project. The result is a space that improves workflow, accessibility, and the overall experience for town officials, staff, and residents alike.

Enhanced Facilities for Fire Department Operations

Adjacent to Town Hall, the Chesterton Fire Department renovation and expansion significantly enhances daily operations and firefighter readiness. The project included a 1,730-square-foot addition and comprehensive interior upgrades tailored to the department’s evolving needs.

Improvements include additional bunk rooms, new bathrooms that support a growing diverse workforce, a training room, updated living and office spaces, and a redesigned kitchen and rec room. An upgraded fitness area further supports firefighter health and wellness, reinforcing the department’s commitment to preparedness and continuous training.

These improvements provide the Fire Department with needed tools, space, and technology to operate efficiently while serving the community around the clock.

Collaboration, Craftsmanship, and Community Impact

The project was so successful because the Town of Chesterton, Kil Architecture & Planning, town engineering staff, and Larson-Danielson worked closely together. Throughout the remodel, coordination and on-site oversight played a critical role in managing change, maintaining quality, and controlling costs.

Town officials described the project as complex and highly rewarding. Careful planning and close teamwork kept the work on track and delivered a space that meets operational and public needs. A public open house and ribbon-cutting was held on January 26, allowing residents to experience the transformed facility firsthand.

Continuing a Trusted Partnership

This project further strengthens Larson-Danielson’s long-standing relationship with the Town of Chesterton. The firm previously completed the town’s new police station and the demolition of the former police department.

Larson-Danielson remains committed to public safety and municipal construction. Our team understands the unique needs of fire, police, and civic operations and builds facilities that are practical, durable, and designed to support daily operations.

The completion of the Chesterton Town Hall and Fire Department renovation reflects that focus. Larson-Danielson is proud to work alongside the Town of Chesterton to deliver modern facilities that support essential services today and into the future.
