Larson-Danielson Construction has officially broken ground on the remodel of the Town of Chesterton’s town hall and fire station. The project marks the next step in modernizing these essential municipal facilities. The project also supports the operational needs of the town’s public service departments.
Larson-Danielson was awarded the contract for the project via hard-bid in April. With work now underway, Larson-Danielson committed to delivering an upgraded facility for civic operations and first responder services.
Groundbreaking Event Highlights Project Vision
Town officials, fire department leadership, and project partners gathered on May 16 for a groundbreaking ceremony. The event recognized the significance of updating a mid-century building that no longer meets the demands of modern municipal services.
Speakers emphasized modernization, accessibility, and the need for facilities that support the town’s evolving operational requirements. Town Council Vice President Erin Collins highlighted the key priorities of the remodel. These include enhanced functionality, improved technology, and upgraded spaces designed for better workflow and communication.
Council Member Jim Ton spoke on the importance of embracing change. He noted that the project represents a meaningful step toward better serving Chesterton for years to come.
Fire Chief Sean O’Donnell also shared his perspective. He highlighted how the renovation and addition to the fire station will provide the department much needed amenities. The finished space will offer technology and resources needed for efficient daily operations and continuous training.
Representatives from Kil Architecture & Planning outlined their design approach. The project focuses on improving usability, integrating advanced soundproofing, and elevating the overall experience within the council chambers and administrative areas.
Larson-Danielson’s vice president, Nick Larson closed the ceremony by expressing appreciation for the relationship with the Town of Chesterton. He also highlighted the company’s continued involvement in first responder and municipal projects across the region.
