Larson-Danielson is launching a Winter Food Drive to support local communities across Northern Indiana. Our region is facing an alarming food insecurity rate affecting nearly 100,000 residents, equating to one in every six individuals.
With that staggering fact in mind, our mission is to make a meaningful impact by collecting over 2,025 food items for five local food pantries by February 28. Our food drive is open to individuals, local businesses, and organizations who would like to join us in this valuable cause.
Your contributions will directly benefit the following food pantries, each playing a critical role in their respective counties:
Lake County
TradeWinds Community Pantry – Merrillville
TradeWinds Community Pantry serves Lake and Porter County residents by providing a helping hand to those in need. It also offers practical job training opportunities to participants in TradeWinds’ programs, which offer support for children and adults with special needs and their families. Participants engage in tasks such as stocking shelves, organizing items, preparing for distribution days, and packing and delivering food orders to customers in their vehicles.
Porter County
Immanuel Lutheran Food Pantry – Valparaiso
The Immanuel Lutheran Food Pantry serves residents of Center, Washington, and Morgan Townships. The program provides high-quality food items to households facing food insecurity. The food pantry delivers essential nutrition to individuals and families in need.
La Porte County
The Pax Center – La Porte
The Pax Center is dedicated to keeping La Porte County well fed through a network of food pantries, community meals, and community gardens. The number of people the center supports varies each week from 150 to 250 individuals. In addition to The Pax Center’s food pantry, they serve two hot meals every week.
St. Joseph County
St. Joe County Community Food Pantry – South Bend
Part of the Food Bank of Northern Indiana and Feeding America®, the Community Food Pantry of St. Josephy County serves residents of St. Joseph County. With one in four kids in the region facing hunger, the Community Food Pantry of St. Joseph County provides nutritious meals to people in need.
Jasper County
Good Samaritan Food Pantry – Rensselaer
The Good Samaritan Food Pantry has been in operation for 40 years and serves residents of Jasper County with essential food, household, and personal items. They also provide emergency food service and educational programs to their participants.
Food Insecurity in Our Communities
Every can, box, or bag of food you donate can make a significant difference for families in need. By banding together, we can ensure that no one in our community goes hungry this season. This goal is more important than ever given the current circumstances.
The issue of food insecurity is particularly serious in Northern Indiana. LaPorte, Starke, and St. Joseph counties report food insecurity rates that substantially exceed the national average. LaPorte County is especially affected, with a child food insecurity rate 36.3% above the national average. These stats stress the urgent need for community action.
Support the Winter Food Drive
Larson-Danielson is calling on the community to support our food drive, whether through direct donations or by spreading the word. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off on weekdays from 8 AM to 4 PM CT at our office located at 302 Tyler Street in La Porte.
Join us in our mission to combat food insecurity in our communities. Together, we can create a future where everyone has access to the basic necessities they need. Your support is invaluable, and we look forward to making a significant impact with your help.
We want to help build a stronger, more compassionate community. We appreciate any support in making our food drive a success.
