On a crisp Wednesday morning, the City of South Bend witnessed a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation journey of Four Winds Field. A steel topping ceremony was held on February 26, marking a pivotal moment in the stadium’s extensive renovation project.
The event was a demonstration of community pride and collaboration, attended by a diverse group of officials and stakeholders who have been instrumental in bringing this ambitious vision to life. The highlight of the ceremony was the hoisting of the final steel beam for the roof of the new upper deck.
The beam represented more than simply a piece of construction material; it bore signatures from those who have played a part in this significant project. The crowd gathered to watch as the beam, adorned with these personal touches, was lifted into place, signaling a major milestone in the stadium’s renovation.

Among the notable attendees was South Bend Mayor James Mueller, who addressed the audience with enthusiasm about the impact the expansion will have on the community.
“This expansion project stands as a testament to the steadfast dedication of our community and the South Bend Cubs in revitalizing our city and bringing this world-class vision to life,” he remarked. Mayor Mueller highlighted the project’s potential to spark growth and transformation within South Bend and its neighborhoods.
Elevating the Fan Experience for South Bend
Owned by the City of South Bend and home to the South Bend Cubs, the High-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, Four Winds Field is poised to become a beacon of community spirit and sporting excellence. As construction progresses, the excitement continues to build, reflecting the shared vision of a brighter, more connected South Bend.
The project at Four Winds Field includes physical upgrades designed to enhance the overall experience for both fans and players. The renovations are intended to boost the stadium’s status, positioning it as a premier destination for baseball and community events. Andrew Berlin, owner of the South Bend Cubs, shared his excitement for the future, noting the significance of the partnerships that have driven this project forward.
“As we approach the midpoint of the renovation here at Four Winds Field, I’m already imagining the memories that will be created for fans in this re-imagined stadium,” Berlin said.

Transforming Four Winds Field for New Experiences
Larson-Danielson is the Construction Manager as Constructor (CMc) for this two-year, multi-phased project. The $48 million renovation includes several key enhancements to the venue in hopes that it will host cherished memories for years to come.
The first phase focuses on adding a second floor to the concourse, which will feature new suites and a party deck space. Additionally, the existing Pepsi Club will receive significant upgrades. The splash zone will be relocated and enlarged, and the kids’ zone will be relocated as well.
The second phase of construction will feature a new building for event space, administrative offices, and club space. A walkway bridge connecting the new second floor of the concourse to the new events and admin building will also be built. These upgrades are part of a broader effort to create a more engaging and enjoyable environment for all visitors.
Construction began after the last pitch in September 2024 and is expected to wrap up in Spring 2026. When the project is complete, the stadium will increase its capacity from 8,000 to more than 10,000.
