Howard Park Redevelopment

Larson-Danielson was the general contractor for the Howard Park redevelopment project in South Bend, exemplifying our expertise in public works construction. This 13-acre transformation revitalizes the area with features like a LEED v4-certified community center, ice-skating pond, and multi-generational playground. Located along the St. Joseph River, the park is designed for universal accessibility and year-round use, offering shared-use pathways, event lawns, and a full-service café. This project enhances the city’s landscape and serves as a central attraction for residents, visitors, and businesses, reflecting our commitment to delivering high-quality construction services.

Howard Park has quickly become one of the region’s most popular destinations. None of this could have become a reality without the partnership we built with Larson-Danielson as our General Contractor. I use the word “partnership” deliberately here because I believe the work we accomplished together could only be done through such a relationship. Even before Larson-Danielson was officially under contract, they were working hard to ensure our project was a success. From management to the front line trades, every professional was working towards a common goal. What could have been complex, Larson-Danielson made simple. What could have been stressful, Larson-Danielson made successful. The entire team was able to deliver intricate landscaping, high-end craftsmanship, sophisticated mechanicals, and custom never-before seen amenities. The contractors showed tenacity, working through these complexities while also encountering a challenging set of weather circumstances. They experienced a Polar Vortex, the rainiest spring in Indiana history, an extremely warm summer, and a volatile fall season while racing to the completion date. Not only were we able to finish the project on-time and within budget, we exceeded everyone’s imaginations.”
